Kentucky Wesleyan women’s basketball completed their 2008-09 recruiting class by adding junior college transfers Danielle Roe and Jennifer Coronelli, according to Panther head coach Ron Williams.
Roe, a 5-foot-9 guard from Sinclair CC in Dayton, Ohio, averaged 12.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals as a sophomore this season in leading the Tartan Pride and head coach Jeff Dillion to a conference title with a 22-4 record. The two-time first-team all-conference and all-region performer as a freshman she averaged 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals.
“Danielle is a very athletic guard who has great size,†said Williams. “She is a versatile player who has an ability to attack the rim off the dribble. We look forward to Danielle making a big impact in program over the next two years.â€
At Springfield South High School in Springfield, Ohio, roe’s senior numbers include 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.6 assists per game in starting all 21 games for head coach Lee Ann Ballard. She earned all-city, all-conference, all-district and all-area honors as a sophomore, junior and senior, and finished fifth in career points with 1,109.
She is the daughter of Darryl and Lisa roe of Springfield, Mo., and plans to major in communication arts.
Coronelli, a 5-foot-5 guard from Kanakee CC, as sophomore in 2008 averaged 7.8 points, 5.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals to help the Cavaliers to a 30-3 record enroute to the region championship and a NJCAA runner-up finish. She shot 55.0 percent from the field, 43.3 percent from three-point and 66.2 percent from the charity stripe.
“Jenny has played in two junior college national championship games and we look forward to her winning ways in helping our program,†Williams said. “She is an exciting point guard who knows how to push the ball and get all her teammates involved. She is going to be a great fit for our program over the next two years.â€
In two seasons, she accumulated averages of 7.1 points, 4.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game and assisted Kanakee CC to a 57-10 record, two region titles and two national runner-up spots.
Coronelli at Reed Custer High School in Braidwood, Ill., twice earned all-state honorable mention recognition and amassed 1,236 points, 112 three-pointers, 306 assists and 261 steals in four seasons and three as a starter. She averaged 18.4 points, 5.3 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 as a senior in 2006. Her honors also include two-time team MVP, twice selected all-conference and all-area.
She is the daughter of Dave and Cindy Coronelli of Braidwood, Ill. and will major in fitness and sports management.
Previous Kentucky prep signees include Kristen Rowe a 5-10 forward from Cumberland County HS, Katie Behrens a 6-foot center from Boone County HS, Erin Keith a 5-7 guard from North Bullitt HS and Indiana state standout Keely Wilhite a 6-2 center from Wood Memorial HS.
