Daviess' Bratcher signs with KWC

Josh Bratcher, a cross country runner at Daviess County High School, signed a national letter of intent with Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday.

"I'm really excited about stepping up to the next level and competing as a runner in college," Bratcher said. "It's like a dream come true, really. I've put a lot of years into running, and it's rewarding to realize I'm going to be able to compete at the collegiate level."

At KWC, Bratcher will run for his father, Panther coach Willie Bratcher, but it won't be a new experience. Bratcher ran five years for his father as a member of the Burns Middle School cross country teams in the early 2000s.

Bratcher appeared in three state cross country championships for DCHS, covering 3.1 miles in 16:54 as a sophomore in 2007. His career-best 5-kilometer time was 16:52 as a junior at the Muhlenberg County Fun Run. In his junior year, DCHS won the state championship.

Also a three-year track and field standout for the Panthers, Bratcher was a member of the Region I championship 3,200-meter relay team last spring (8:45). That unit that also included Wes Russelburg, Pate Anderson and Landon Taylor.
