Baseball splits with Southern Indiana

Jordan White smacked two homers on the day and the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team won one and lost one in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Southern Indiana on Tuesday at KWC.

The Panthers won the first game 10-9 and dropped the nightcap 4-2.

In the first contest, Nathan Hedgepath hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to lead Kentucky Wesleyan to a 10-9 victory.

USI jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Panthers responded with four runs in the first as Hedgepath knocked in two runs along with Sean Embry and Luis Mila adding a RBI.

Jordan White came back into the fourth with a two-run homer. Randy Villa then hit a RBI single in the fifth. Embry hit a RBI double and Max Aubrey drove in a run to extend KWC's lead to 9-3.

The Screaming Eagles responded with one run in the seven and five in the eight including a grand-slam home run to tie tie game at 9-9 before Hedgepath's game winning hit.

Tyler Emberton pitched the ninth inning to earn his second win. Drew Watts started the game and threw six innings  and recorded six strikeouts. Wes Ward pitched two innings with one strikeout.

In the second game, USI scored first in the fourth inning with one run. White hit third home run of the season to tie the score at 1-1 in the fourth.

The Screaming Eagles then scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh for a 4-1 lead. The Panthers bounced back as White hit a sacrifice fly with bases loaded to score Luis MIla for KWC's final run.

Tim Steed (4-2) collected seven strikeouts in six innings in the loss. Chaz Simpson closed the seventh inning.

KWC (13-11, 7-5 GLVC) hosts Northern Kentucky for a weekend four-game series on Friday and Saturday at noon both days.
