Loyola Marymount's C.J. Blackwell will transferred to eight-time NCAA Division II Champion Kentucky Wesleyan College for his final two years of eligibility, as announced by KWC head men's basketball coach Happy Osborne.
Blackwell, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound guard/forward from Los Angeles, (Taft Charter HS), averaged 5.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 20.8 minutes in 28 games including 11 starts as a junior for the Lions.
He shot 38.4 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from three-point and 72.7 percent from the free throw line while collecting 21 assists, 14 steals and six blocks for head coach Max Good.
"C.J. gives us a tremendous amount of versatility both inside and on the perimeter where he can play shooting guard, quick forward or power forward," Osborne stated.
"He's a very good three-pointer shooter who can put it on the floor and drive to the basket. C.J. will cause mismatch problems no matter where he is on the floor on both ends.
"He also has the skills of a rugged and aggressive rebounder."
His sophomore season, he sat out as a medical redshirt after playing seven contests averaging 6.6 points and 2.3 rebounds.
As a freshman Blackwell averaged 6.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 15.1 minutes in 33 games.
Blackwell's three-year LMU career highs were 21 points. five assists and three blocks versus LaSierra, 11 rebounds against Idaho State and three assists over Mississippi.
At Taft, he led the Toreadors in scoring with 13.3 points and finished second in rebounding with 9.0 boards as a senior in 2010-11. Blackwell went on to received first team All-Los Angeles Section honors.
Blackwell will continue as a sociology major at KWC. His parents are Cory and Megan Blackwell of Los Angeles. His father was a standout for Wisconsin and played in the NBA with the Seattle Supersonics.
