Kentucky Wesleyan's 2016 season will begin on the road against Delta State (RV) at 6 p.m. at Parker Field-McCool Stadium, in Cleveland, Miss. The Panthers finished 5-6 last year, and will face a difficult schedule in the 2016 season. KWC matched up with Delta State last season with a 51-18 loss in the third game.
The Panthers lose several key players from last season on both sides of the ball, including Dalton Oliver at quarterback and Cody Mills on the defensive line. Even with those departures, head coach Brent Holsclaw has brought in a new talented batch of new players.
"We had a great camp. Our guys came back in terrific shape, and our depth should be much better this year. As the schedule grows, I hope that our talent and coaches have grown too. I think that our program is certainly on the rise.
"Right now all of our focus is on our team, but Delta State is a terrific opponent. We felt that we played with them last year, but we were a little star struck at the game and the environment. Now that we've been there, I hope that it is not, and our kids aren't as taken back by the atmosphere, and hopefully we'll be much more relaxed coming into the game" Holsclaw stated.
KWC also has senior wide receiver Keelan Cole back. Cole has been selected to multiple pre-season All-American teams.
Holsclaw also touched base on the outlook for this year's team. "It's an exciting time now for our program. Our kids have worked hard. They've paid a price both physically and mentally, and I think that the fans will be excited with what they see."
Kentucky Wesleyan's first home game of the year will be on September 10 against Davidson.
